What is your idea of an ultimate vacation? A definitive picture of an ideal vacation is total relaxation and freedom from things, events and people that will interfere from your discovery of the goodness of life and the luxury of being in harmony with nature. It should be one that will make you realize that you exist to make a life, not only to make a living. Life, as will philosopher say, is too short. It must be lived fully and wonderfully, lest it dissipate like mountain dew in a morning that appears but only a moment. A summer getaway or vacation should give time to yourself to live like a free man or woman. It suggests freedom from worries and the rigors of daily existence. An ultimate vacation shuts you off temporarily from the world of work, and humanly links you to your private existence by consoling yourself with the magnificence and splendor of nature.

The best way to spend a vacation is to lodge temporarily in a mountain, near a river or lake or in a farm where you can stay and enjoy doing some of the things which you don’t when you revert to your actual world—to the world of work, to life. Staying with nature gives you the best momentary isolation from the world of work. The cold and clear waters of a river or a lake, the pristine and verdant beauty of the forest or mountain, the sweetness of the bird’s song on top of forest trees, the chirping of cicadas, the earthly smell of the soil, the primitiveness and spontaneity of living in a cabin send but one message—nature communicates to your soul. It only takes a man in solitary willing to explore the beauty of nature and be one with her. Do you remember the great American author Henry David Thoreau? Though more of an exercise of philosophical experimentalism, Thoreau’s stay in the Walden Pond, I suppose, could mean a luxurious existence for corporate man who spend all of his life making projects, executing programs, crafting policies and decisions for the business and all that could mean but one thing: work. It is a sorry spectacle to see him live his life without having lived—without even having experienced doing things which his forefathers from a long stretch of the past used to do such as hunting, fishing, planting, horseback riding, etc.

When some of my friends had decided to spend a whole week vacation, I suggest to them to spend it in Arkansas. I told them that they could try Arkansas Fishing and try to stay in an Arkansas Cabin which most vacationers used to do when they visit the place. It is a totally different experience to live in a riverside cabin and fish ala-Thoreau when he stayed in the Walden Pond. You may not be there to discover some important philosophical thoughts, but of course, you will discover a lot about existence.
